Canyon de Chelly

The Anasazi (the Ancient Ones) lived in this canyon during the period between 800 and 1000 AD. Their dwellings were constructed from stone and adobe (mud) and were located in natural wall openings where they were protected from the elements. Many of these dwellings still stand today.
