Barker Dam
Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park was a very in-hospitable place for early ranchers but some did survive there. One rancher flourished there. Bill Keys raised a family in the early 20th century in part of what's today called Joshua Tree National Park.

Barker dam was built by early cattlemen who needed to provide water for the cattle. Barker dam is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This is an image taken about a half-hour after dawn with the reflection of the early warm light on the rocks above in the water of the dam. Since there's been a drought in the west this year, the water level is VERY low. Most of the rocks in the foreground would normally be covered by the water.
