Composition - Watch your Backgrounds!

We've all seen it.

Somebody shows us a picture of their child, spouse, friend, etc. and we have to chuckle.  There's a telephone pole or tree growing out of the persons head!  The natural instinct when taking a picture of a person is to center their head in the frame (ugh!) and concentrate on it (the head).  But, when taking a picture, we have to be cognizant of EVERYTHING in the frame - the foreground and background in addition to our subject.  Before you press that shutter try to see EVERYTHING you are taking - not just your subject.
